The automobile is now encased in plexiglass, along with two dummies costumed as Bonnie and Clyde, one of which is sporting Clyde’s original outfit. Multiple notes defending the car’s authenticity adorn the exhibit. The car’s doors have been tied shut to prevent anyone brave enough to scale the glass cage from entering.

The automobile will occasionally cruise across southern Nevada to various casinos, but Whiskey Pete’s is its constant.

Bought in 1988 for $250,000 (now worth over $500,000)

Stanley, who was retiring for the occasion, sold the automobile to Ted Toddy. The iconic Bonnie and Clyde film, starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, was released a few years later, in 1967.

As the automobile regained popularity, the hoopla around it increased. In 1975, the automobile was sold to Peter Simon, owner of Pops Oasis racing car park in Jean, Nevada, roughly 30 miles south of Las Vegas.

The casino shuttered ten years later, and the automobile was sold for $250,000 to Primm Resorts, which now displays it in casinos and museums around the country. It’s commonly located near gangster Dutch Shultz’s house automobile with lead-lined body panels, resulting in just dents rather than holes.

Body Injury

This figure is a bit hypothetical, since I’ve seen a variety of figures ranging from “above 100” to “about 160.” 167 is the most consistent figure I’ve heard, and without seeing the car in person or being able to count, I’ll have to trust what I’m told.

Of course, additional shots were fired at the criminals and their vehicle, but the safety glass miraculously remained intact despite the steel-tipped bullets that also struck the driver’s side door and hood. By penetrating the back glass and the upper section of the body, some bullets spread out further than others. The automobile, like Bonnie and Clyde’s bodies, was riddled with holes.

Given that they only had it for three weeks before the end of the line, Bonnie and Clyde travelled 7,000 miles is rather impressive. Of course, the trip from Topeka, Kansas to Louisiana Highway 154, where they were finally surrounded, was not a straight shot. This was the culmination of three weeks of relentless driving, fleeing, and stealing.

The V8 engine was clearly put to the test as the pair went way above any speed restriction or the car’s intended top speed. The majority of the miles was likely logged in Texas, where they shot a cop outside of Dallas. Then they hid in West Louisiana, using Alabama plates to attempt to avoid law enforcement.

In the early 1930s, Ruth married Jesse. He worked as a roofing contractor and had a home at 2107 Gabler Street in Topeka, Kansas. When March rolled around, they decided it was time for a new automobile, so they drove two miles down the road to Mosby-Mack Motors.

The salesman offered them a brand-new Ford Model 730 Deluxe Sedan for only $200 down and $582.92 to be paid by April 15th. Before the whole total owing was paid off, they simply put a few hundred moderate miles on it to break it in.

As previously stated, a new 1934 Ford V8 cost around $610. I can only assume that some of the options were dealer added because it was sold to the Warrens for $785 and 92 cents.

Nonetheless, given that a new V8 automobile would cost just roughly $14,000 today, buying one for the same price is nearly impossible.

The Mitsubishi Mirage is about the only new car in that price range that I’m aware of now, and it only has a half-V8. A Dodge Charger is the cheapest four-door V8 automobile on the market, yet it costs more than twice as much. You’re out of luck if you’re looking for a modern-day Model A.

Purchased from a Topeka, Kansas dealership

Built in 1928, the original building on SW Van Buren Street and SW 7th Street where the automobile was sold is still substantially intact (with the exception of a few aprons). In the interim, it has hosted a number of dealerships, including Jack Frost Motors, Vic Yarrington Oldsmobile, and Mosby-Mack Motors.

The downtown Mosby-Mack Motors dealership was purchased by Willard Noller, who subsequently founded Laird Noller Motors, which is still in business today. The dealership on Van Buren Street that sold a roofing contractor and his wife a brand new Ford Tudor Deluxe was purchased, and the building is now a law office.

The 2,000 acres that would form the facility, known as the “Rouge,” were bought in 1915. Initially, the region produced military boats, then Fordson tractors in 1921. After that, Model A production began in 1927, but it wasn’t until 1932 that the “new” Ford V8 was fitted to a Model A frame.

Our Model 730 Deluxe was built in February 1934, the same year Bonnie Parker was jailed in Kaufman, Texas for a botched heist. Clyde was intimately engaged in his first known killing, a shopkeeper called J.N. Bucher, who was shot in April of that year. Clyde was identified as one of the suspects by J.N’s wife.
