Booster: The fixed head restraint in the second row had no effect on how the booster sat on the seat. The Model X’s robust buckles will also make it easier for children to buckle up on their own.
Two sets of anchors are located directly within the seat bight, where the back and bottom cushions meet; connecting was simple. There are three tether anchors, but they’re hidden under carpet, so you’ll have to hunt them down to connect.
Forward-facing convertible: The fixed head restraint in the second row had no effect on how the car seat fit on the seat. The bottom Latch anchors were simple to attach to, but the top tether anchor required digging into the seatback carpet.
The fixed head restraint was not an issue with fit in the third row, however the buckles are on arms that fold into the seat. The buckle button is also black rather than black and red, which reduces visibility. Both of these challenges make it difficult for children to buckle up on their own.
Third-row access: The third-row entrance is narrow, and the step-in height is high. Worse, the gullwing doors don’t open high enough, so you’re bound to hit your head.
Third-row Latch: The third-row anchors are deep-set, and the upholstery is firm, making access difficult. The top tether anchors are plainly indicated, but they’re also buried in the carpet of the seatback, making connection difficult.
The fixed head restraint didn’t force the third-row forward-facing car seat off the seatback, but the installation was difficult owing to hidden Latch and tether anchors.
Even if using a child safety seat or booster seat and the front passenger airbag is switched off, do not put an infant or kid in the front passenger seat. When a collision happens, the front passenger seat may inflate, resulting in the child’s DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY. Only the second or third row (if applicable) seats are permitted for children.
Seat belts on the Model X are all meant for adults. Use a child restraint system appropriate for the kid’s age, weight, or size when seating babies and children (see Recommended Child Restraint Systems).
Use a child restraint device designed for the Model X’s unique seating position. See Second Row Outboard Seats (Bench Seats) or Second Row Outboard Seats (Monopost Seats), Second Row Center Seat (Bench or Monopost), and Third Row Seats for more information on which type of child restraint system may be used in each passenger seat.
Follow the manufacturer’s directions to properly install the child restraint system (see Installing Belt-based Child Restraint Systems and Installing ISOFIX Child Restraint Systems for general guidelines).
When installing a child seat in the second row of a Model X with second row monopost seats, deactivate Easy Entry into the third row (see Accessing Third Row Seats (if fitted) – Monopost Seating).
When installing a child seat in the second row of a Model X with bench seats, deactivate Easy Entry into the first row (see Accessing Third Row Seats (if fitted) – Bench Seating).
Ensure that a “seat unlocked” alert does not appear on the touchscreen or instrument panel before driving after installing a child seat in the second row. Because the seat was not restored to its secure, locked position, this warning advises that the seat is hazardous for an occupant. If the warning message appears on the touchscreen or instrument panel, adjust the seat or backrest forward or backward until it locks securely into place and the message disappears.
Tesla gives suggested child restraint devices in the table below depending on a kid’s weight group (as determined by ECE R44 “Uniform Provisions Concerning Restraining Devices for Child Occupants”).
Although each rear passenger seat in the Model X can accommodate people of all weight groups, the type of child restraint system that can be employed in each seat varies. Toggle the kid restraint system back and forth.
Remove the child restraint system from the vehicle seat.
Both latches are not properly latched onto the seat’s anchor bars if the child restraint system turns or slides away from the seat. It is necessary to reinstall it and try again. Both latches on the child restraint system must be completely engaged.
When the total weight of the kid and the child restraint system exceeds 33 pounds, do not use ISOFIX/i-Size anchors with child restraint systems or booster seats with an incorporated safety belt.
The Model X’s first and second row passenger seats may accommodate a child restraint system with a safety leg. If the child restraint system has a leg, extend it as directed by the maker of the child restraint system.
On a seat with an active passenger front airbag, never employ a rearward facing child restraint system. This can result in serious injury or death. Refer to the sun visor’s warning label for more information.
Lap belts or the lap belt part of a lap-shoulder belt are designed to fasten some child restraint systems in car seats. If the child restraint systems in the car are not correctly fastened, children may be put in risk.
Use a forward-facing child restraint device only once your kid has reached the weight of 9 kg (20 lbs.) and is able to sit unaided. A child’s spine and neck are not fully grown until they reach the age of two in a frontal collision
Allow no one to hold a baby or infant on their lap. At all times, all children should be secured in an approved child restraint system.
